Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including hypertension and strokes, account for an important share of mortality and direct health costs in Quebec. In this study, we use a microsimulation model to project public expenditure on hospitalizations and physician consultations to 2050, under various scenarios of the evolution of CVD. A plausible scenario, of an immediate 30% decrease in CVD incidence due to better prevention, yields cumulative savings of $21\u00a0billion in present value, to which another $66\u00a0billion (in 2012\u00a0$) can be added for the economic value of the life-years saved over the period.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
